WinRAR is Windows version of the RAR Archiver, the powerful compression program and archive manager. RAR files usually compress data up to 30 percent more effectively than ZIP files.
WinRAR's most important features include the extremely powerful compression of documents and multimedia files, the processing of other archive formats, the support of long filenames, programmable self-extracting archives (SFX), the repair of corrupted archives, embedded file commentaries and archiving of archives.
The command line version of RAR is available for Linux, FreeBSD, and MAC OS X.
